DTCare's team of art therapists in Dnipro is making a difference in the lives of children and families. Our partnership with NOSU (Scouts of Dnipro) allows us to provide group and individual art therapy sessions for children of all ages, including children with special needs. In addition, DTCare works with NGO "Maximum" to provide group sessions for children and families in need. Dnipro residents face frequent shelling, making our support crucial for the community's well-being.

Art Therapy Sessions in Action

Group Art Therapy with Young Children

This “Understanding Emotions through Art: Facial Expressions and Feelings” session with children from 5 to 7 years old was aimed at developing skills of expression and understanding of emotions. Participants improved their ability to recognize their own emotions and those of others, as well as express them through art.

”Flowers of Resistance”

During this therapeutic art session, children explored various symbols and metaphors that can aid in overcoming fear during the war. The children created cotton flowers from wool as a symbol of resistance and overcoming anxiety.

Creating Wool Superheroes

In this session, children used felt, wool, and other materials to create superheroes with superpowers. Children made superheroes out of their favorite cartoon characters and real people that inspire them.

Expressing Feelings for Valentine’s Day

The “Love and Care: Expressing Feelings by Creating Felt Valentines” session focused on group art therapy for children from 6 to 11 years old. The session was aimed at promoting children’s ability to express their feelings and care through art. The therapy helped the children improve their self-expression, perception of emotions, and development of empathy.

Art Therapy Demographics in Dnipro

DTCare and NOSU work with men, women, teenagers, and children in Dnipro. Close to 90% of all our clients are children under 13, and the smallest group we work with is teenagers.

Younger children can benefit from art therapy as it allows them to communicate their feelings and experiences that they may not be able to articulate in words. Art therapy can help teenagers navigate the challenges of adolescence and express their identity and individuality through art. It can also be a powerful tool for addressing mental health issues, building resilience, and assisting with severe trauma.
