Youth Education Sponsorship
Promoting Access to Quality Education in South Africa
Formal education is an essential stepping stone to employment opportunities. Education is inaccessible for most children and youth from underprivileged backgrounds in developing nations due to financial and physical barriers. The odds are stacked against youth lacking a quality education to find employment later in life. Unemployment and poverty go hand-in-hand, and DTCare is working to help break the cycle of poverty for more than 19 African youth.
Through our Better Learning Brighter Futures program, we sponsor the enrollment and school fees, boarding costs, transport, tutoring, extracurricular activities, and immigration requirements to enable disadvantaged children and youth to receive a quality, formal education at highly rated schools and academic institutions in South Africa. A good education is essential to give children and youth an advantage later in life.
Better Learning, Brighter Futures
Uplifting Youth Through Education Sponsorship
DTCare is committed to bridging the barriers preventing children and youth from receiving a quality education. Through our Better Learning Brighter Futures program we provide financial sponsorship, study visa assistance, tutoring resources, and additional support to make education accessible for youth in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Overcoming Barriers to Quality Education
Poverty and joblessness are prevalent socio-economic issues in South Africa. One hindrance to employment is the lack of access to quality education and learning resources. In stride with one of Nelson Mandela’s most famous philosophies, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” DTCare’s mission in South Africa and Zimbabwe is to bridge some of the barriers that prevent 18 children from underprivileged backgrounds to reach their fullest potential. An estimated 51% of high schoolers in South Africa cannot afford tertiary tuition, and an alarming 23.1% of final year high school students are unable to participate in post-school learning due to an inadequate education that results from high failing and dropout rates, found Stats SA (the South African Department of Statistics).
DTCare’s Youth Education Sponsorship Program enables 19 youths to reach milestones that would have bottlenecked financial and physical barriers to quality education. The sponsorship program covers school registration, tuition, tutoring, room and board, wifi, and uniform fees for every learner. Many youths attend high-ranking private schools through the sponsorship program that offers additional learning resources to provide them with the needed academic support to perform better academically and complete their schooling in line with tertiary requirements.
Breaking the Cycle of Unfinished Schooling
A child’s future begins with a complete quality education. Poor academic performance and outside-of-school commitments prevent a significant percentage of youth (an estimated 60%) from finishing their formal schooling in South Africa, which ultimately counteracts their chances of employment and livable earning potential. DTCare set out to support 19 children and youth on their journey to finish school and give them the opportunity to attend a tertiary education institution. The sponsorship program helps participating learners get back on track with their school progress, where children that failed or were held back are at greater risk of not completing school. DTCare finds that learning resources and tutoring can help learners who have fallen behind in their academics. With the right resources, we see an increase in pass and school completion rates.

Meet the Young People We Support
We believe in the power of education and that all children deserve access to quality education. Sadly, many children in Africa do not have access to educational opportunities. That is why DTCare launched our Better Learning Brighter Futures initiative—to empower children and youth through education in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Through our sponsorship initiative, DTCare funds the education of 19 children and youth. We believe that education can help youth build a better future for themselves and those around them. DTCare's Better Learning Brighter Futures initiative will help fund enrollment fees and learning materials, extra classes and tutoring, extracurricular school-related activities, as well as internet, transport, and lunch fees. The education sponsorship initiative caters to the particular needs of each child to help them make the most of their education.
