The America’s Favorite Pet Competition is powered by our partner, Colossal.
DTCare, a U.S. 501(c)(3) public charity, has joined forces with Colossal Management, LLC, a for-profit professional fundraiser, to run America’s Favorite Pet as a fundraising campaign. Colossal operates the Competition, while DTCare receives and distributes the donation funds (minus fees, costs, etc.) to the Designated Grantee after the Competition concludes. What is America’s Favorite Pet?
America's Favorite Pet is an annual competition inviting furry felines and cuddly canines around the world to compete for the title, the cover of Modern Cat and Modern Dog, and $10,000 cash. Colossal, in partnership with DTCare, is proud to support PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) through America’s Favorite Pet. Since 1967, PAWS has unified more than 130,000 cats and dogs with loving families, nurtured more than 140,000 sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife, and made the world a better place for countless critters.

Is America's Favorite Pet a legitimate contest?
Yes! In 2024, donations generated through Colossal's America's Favorite Pet Competition resulted in an $8.9+ million grant to PAWS through Colossal's charity grantmaking partner, DTCare, and, the previous year resulted in a $3.2+ million grant to PAWS. America's Favorite Pet is a legitimate competition where one adorable pooch and fab feline are voted in by the public as America's top dog and top cat, each prancing away with $10,000 and the cover of Modern Cat or Modern Dog. You can find Destiny and Ysera's sweet faces on the Spring/Summer 2024 covers. PAWS even issued the professional fundraiser the 'Colossal Kindness Award'. So, yes, America's Favorite Pet is proven to be a legitimate competition.
How is DTCare involved in America’s Favorite Pet?
DTCare is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to assisting corporations, foundations, and individuals make a positive impact in the world. As DTCare is registered to solicit donations nationwide, we are able to accept donations from U.S. donors in all 50 states and then subsequently grant the funds to select, vetted charities that align with DTCare’s mission, goals, and how we set out to make a difference across the globe. For the America’s Favorite Pet Competition, DTCare will receive all of the donations, and we have selected PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) as our designated grantee.
Where does the competition money go?
Donations raised from votes by donation cast during this Competition go directly to DTCare, which will subsequently grant the donations, minus Competition fees (36.5%) and variable costs (including payment processing fees, operating and prize costs, etc., not to exceed 13.5%), which shall include a nominal percentage (1%) retained by DTCare. DTCare retains exclusive custody and control over all funds raised during the Competition.
DTCare immediately receives donations upon a vote by donation being cast. DTCare then distributes the donations to the Designated Grantee (minus fees, costs, etc.) within thirty (30) days after the conclusion of the Competition. Detailed information is available on the Competition Rules page here.
Voter donation contributions are deductible for U.S. Federal Income Tax purposes in accordance with applicable law.
